Once I was a batchelor, and liv'd by my self,
And all the victuals that I had I put upon a shelf;
But the rats and the mice they made such a strife,
I was forc'd to go to London to get me a wife.
The streets were so wide, and the lanes were so narrow,
I was fain to bring my wife home in a wheelbarrow:
The wheelbarrow broke, and my wife had a fall;
So the D_____l take the wheelbarrow, wife, and all!
